Lawyers are often assisted by paralegals and legal assistants. Paralegals and legal assistants may be asked to conduct legal research, prepare reports or help lawyers prepare for legal proceedings and business meetings. They work in various organizations, including, among others, private law firms, corporate legal departments and government offices.
Employment of paralegals and legal assistants is projected to grow at a faster rate than the average for all occupations from 2011 through 2018.1
The Paralegal program in the School of Criminal Justice at ITT Technical Institute is designed to help students develop knowledge and skills to pursue entry-level positions as paralegals and legal assistants. The program introduces fundamentals of ethics, legal research and writing, law office technology and specific areas of the law, such as criminal law, family law, wills, trusts and estates, and litigation, among others. Students are exposed to teamwork concepts, technology and multiple approaches to problem solving.
