WHAT IT MEANS:
Advancement opportunities may be more limited for nurses with only an Associate Degree or diploma than for registered nurses who obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN). Leadership positions at health care facilities often require a bachelor's degree1. The BSN program at the Breckinridge School of Nursing has a management and leadership focus and provides opportunities for students to explore various topics in health care management, including case management, managed health care and health care business management.
The program focuses on the core knowledge, skills, ethical values and critical reasoning that can help students prepare for the responsibilities of a professional nurse. The program can help graduates prepare to provide evidence-based generalist nursing care to patients, families, groups and communities across the continuum of health care settings. It can also provide a foundation for nursing leadership roles.
WHAT IT MEANS TO YOU:
The purpose of the BSN program is to help registered nurses (RNs) prepare for a broader scope of practice. It may also provide a foundation for career mobility into leadership positions.
This program can help RNs develop knowledge and skills used to provide evidence-based generalist nursing care to diverse individuals, families and populations in a variety of health care environments. It focuses on teaching knowledge, skills, ethical values, and critical reasoning associated with the responsibilities of a professional nurse.
