The Mission of the ITT Technical Institute
The ITT Technical Institute is an institution of higher learning that is committed to offering quality undergraduate and
continuing education locally, nationally and worldwide to students of diverse backgrounds, interests and abilities. The
institution offers educational programs that integrate life-long learning with knowledge and skills to help students:
- pursue their personal interests and objectives;
- develop intellectual, analytical and critical thinking abilities; and
- provide service to their communities.
The programs employ traditional, applied and adult-learning pedagogies and are delivered through traditional, accelerated and
distance methodologies in a learner-centered environment of mutual respect.
ITT Technical Institute is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a private, for-profit, degree granting, special focus
institution that currently offers associate and bachelor degree programs in four schools: Information Technology, Electronics
Technology, Drafting and Design, and Business. ITT Technical Institute programs and the method by which its programs are
delivered are designed for working adults and others who seek a postsecondary education that can help them pursue career
opportunities. ITT Technical Institute's curricula blend traditional academic content with applied learning concepts taught in
a laboratory environment to help graduates prepare for a changing economic and technological environment. General education
courses are combined with core subject matter courses and electives from each ITT Technical Institute program of study and
comply with the requirements of the state of Maryland and ITT Technical Institute's accrediting body.
As a commuter college, ITT Technical Institute's student body reflects the community in which the school is located and,
therefore, is diverse in terms of sex, age, race and socioeconomic status. The vast majority of students attending the college
reside within commuting distance in Baltimore and the surrounding area. In order to be admitted to an ITT Technical Institute
Program, an applicant must exceed the age of compulsory school attendance, possess either a high school diploma or a
recognized equivalency certificate and pass an interview, if requested. In order to assist new students in their academic
preparation, ITT Technical Institute offers developmental course work in mathematics and English.
ITT Technical Institute encourages involvement with public schools and community organizations to foster the development of an
informed citizenry. The ITT Technical Institute also works closely with governmental agencies to ensure that the college and
its programs comply with applicable laws and regulations. The college has established an advisory committee for each school of
study, which is comprised of representatives of local employers. These advisory committees help the college assess and update
the curricula, equipment and laboratory design, and facilitate program awareness to flow from the college to the community.
