Objectives

The program exposes students to various medical office administrative services and clinical duties, routine diagnostic and recording procedures, pre-examination and examination assistance, and the administration of medications and first aid. The program includes instruction in basic anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, medical law and ethics, patient psychology and communications, medical office procedures, and clinical diagnostic, examination, testing and treatment procedures.

Career Opportunities

This degree program offers students enrolled in the program an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills that can help them pursue employment in a variety of entry-level positions in many types of healthcare settings that utilize various aspects of medical assisting and administration.

Graduates of this degree program will have the opportunity for certification when they complete the program. Graduates should be eligible to take the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) examination offered by the American Medical Technologists (AMT). The Medical Assisting and Administration program is currently not accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep). Graduates are not eligible to take the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) examination that is offered by the American Association of Medical Assistants. Registration and certification requirements for and passing these examinations are controlled by outside agencies and subject to change without notice. Therefore, the institution cannot guarantee that graduates will be eligible to take the certification or registration exams at all or any specific time, regardless of their eligibility status upon enrollment.

School Equipment

Students will have the opportunity to use the Health Sciences lab to develop clinical skills as well as school equipment, such as network computer systems and other common computer peripherals.

Class Size

Class generally ranges in size from 15-30 students. Depending on the course subject matter, certain classes may contain a greater or lesser number of students.
